LITE 92.9 Hits the Airwaves of Nova Scotia (08/07/09)

Nova Scotia's newest radio station hits the airwaves today at 12 noon! Rogers Communications's LITE 92.9 has been test broadcasting for the past few weeks.
According to it's sister station, NEWS 95.7, the new FM station's, Project manager Danny Kingsbury says in between the songs, listeners will also hear from vibrant on-air hosts who will join the station over the next two weeks.
The station will be commercial free until September.
Listeners will get a mix of familiar favorite songs from artists like Rod Stewart and Celine Dion along with contemporary hits from Natasha Beddingfield, Beyonce and Coldplay. Click below to hear the launch of LITE 92.9!
Moncton Now Has MAX-FM (07/31/09)

MBS's Magic 104 flipped today from Favorites of the 70's 80's 90's and Today to 103.9 MAX-FM, Moncton's new Maximum Rock and Pop Classics Radio Station. MBS have a MAX-FM in Sydney.
Shelli Summers, once with Moncton's MBS morning show left the station, on Thursday, July 30th.
The Broadcast Days Of AM Radio Has Ended In Halifax (08/27/09)

The end of a radio era has come to Halifax, the last of the local AM radio stations, CFDR or better known as 780/KIXX signed off the air at 10 AM this morning.
Morning hosts Frank Lowe, Stephanie Wooden, Country Bob and many quests ended the station's rich history, by playing "Who's Going Fill These Shoes" by country music legend George Jones's, and then Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, "Happy Trails".
Started up in December 1962, by then well known Dartmouth resident Artie Patterson, CFDR began the station's 46 years of broadcast on top of a local hardware store in down town Dartmouth.
The station went through many phrases of music formats and voices over the years. The station was owned by Newcap Radio but was recently purchased by Rogers Communication who will be flipping on a new Lite Rock format station. Frank Lowe has left Newcap, while Stepanie Wooden remains, doing new duties.

Halifax's KOOL-FM Let Three Announcers Go

Halifax’s Newcap station, 96.5 KOOL-FM saw three of there main announcers being let go today.
Those laid offs, include from afternoon drive, Jamie Paterson, midday announcer, Shauna MacKinnon and weekend announcer Kelli Rickard.

50,000 AM Station, CFDR (KIXX) Set To End Its Broadcast Days

After 46 years of serving its listeners, through its easy listening, then top 40, and its current classic country format...780/KIXX's (CFDR) last broadcast day will be on Monday July 27th. The 50,000 watts AM station will fall silent at 10 AM.
Morning host, Frank Lowe will be holding a special broadcast, on the morning of with Stephanie Woodin. Special guests include Larry Mercy of the Mercy Brothers, Marie Bottrell, Carol Baker, Barry Brown of The Family Brown and others. CFDR (KIXX) flipped to Country in December of 1993
With the ending of CFDR (KIXX), comes the end of AM radio in the Metro Halifax area.
The only remaining AM stations in Nova Scotia are CJCB Sydney, CKAD Middleton,CKDY Digby 1420 CFAB Windsor 1450, part of Maritime Broadcasting Systems AVR Network. and, for now CKDH, owned by MBS in Amherst who will be flipping over to the FM band in the near future.
Roger's Communication purchased CFDR and is currently testing its new FM signal on 92.9, with a pending Lite Rock Format. The new station is planning to be on the air by mid-August. Halifax's News 95.7 is also owned and operated by Rogers Communications.
